Program Director, Raven Radio, Sitka
POSITION SUMMARY
Oversees and coordinates KCAW-FM programming and operations. Manages a large volunteer program. Seeks and facilitates community involvement.
POSITION DUTIES
1 Ensures quality of the on-air sound.
2. Selects and schedules programs from a variety of local, regional, national and international sources.
3. Works cooperatively with General Manager in establishing program content and format.
4. Works cooperatively with News Director and General Manager in establishing and scheduling news and public affairs programming.
5. Manages volunteer program; recruits, trains, evaluates and schedules on-air volunteers including development of live programming opportunities from downstairs café.
6. Oversees promotion and public awareness of the radio program schedule; develops and schedules on-air and off-air promotion campaigns.
7. Oversees the development of new program services including internet content.
8. Programs and maintains automation, operations and PRSS computer systems.
9. Coordinates Community Advisory Board and other programming related committees as needed.
10. Acts as station's Music Director.
11. Works cooperatively with Development Director on scheduling of underwriting and EPSAs.
12. Coordinates special programming events and outreach projects.
13. Maintains station compliance with FCC regulations as Chief Operating Officer of KCAW.
14. Produces and/or hosts programs on-air.
15. Produces community public service announcements with digital editing software and trains volunteers to do same.
16. Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION SUPERVISION
Reports directly to General Manager.
Supervises 100+ volunteer programmers and producers.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
1. A minimum of two years radio experience with emphasis on community radio. Similar or equivalent experience will be considered.
2. Demonstrated volunteer supervision and interpersonal skills.
3. Ability to work under pressure and to work well with a wide variety of people.
4. A strong commitment to community involvement, creative radio, public information, audience building and promotion techniques.
5. Exceptional production and on-air performance skills, as demonstrated by an audition tape.
6. Familiarity with AudioVault, Adobe Audition and the Public Radio Satellite System or equivalent, or the demonstrated capacity and willingness to quickly become so.
7. Exceptional organizational skills.
8. Strong computer skills.
9. Demonstrated teaching skills.
10. Ability to work flexible schedule.
11. Knowledge and appreciation of a wide variety of musical genres.
SALARY RANGE
$36,630 - $49,040 DOE. This position is classified full time exempt with competitive benefit plan.
Raven Radio is an eclectic, NPR/PRI/APRN member, community-licensed station. KCAW is a digital production facility. EEO. We serve eight communities for a population of about eleven thousand people. The station is located in Sitka, an historic, multi-cultural town on Baranof Island at the edge of the Gulf of Alaska. It is a remote and wild place with mild temperatures and about six feet of rain per year.
